2020 Holiday Events in the Austin Area

The holidays are here, and many Austin area events are still taking place with COVID safety measures in place for your protection.

Before attending any of these events, we strongly encourage visiting the event website for updates or cancellations regarding COVID.

Mozart’s Holiday Light Show
Happening now – January 6, 2021
With health and safety concerns in mind, Austin’s popular coffee shop and hangout, Mozart’s, is offering a  “COVID Cautious Christmas Light Show” with a reservation-only ticketing system so that you can book a safe, socially distanced lakeside spot in one of four designated seating sections. Parking, entry times and dining will all be COVID compliant so that the public can feel safe and sound celebrating this year under their beautiful light display. Reserve your table.

Marble Falls’ 30th Annual Walkway of Lights
November 20, 2020 – January 2, 2021
A hop, skip and a jump outside of Austin, in Burnet County, the City of Marble Falls will start their annual Christmas celebrations with the Christmas Tree Lighting and Walkway of Lights Light-up Parade on Nov. 20. That evening also marks the opening of a new Winter Ice Skating Rink in Lakeside Park. Additional events throughout the season include theme nights at the Walkway of Lights, Breakfast with Santa, S’mores in the Park, Christmas Market on Main, Downtown Sip N’ Shops, and much more. Get the full schedule of events at VisitMarbleFalls.org/Christmas.

Luminations at the Wildflower Center
November 27, 2020 – January 3, 2021
This year’s Luminations, our favorite winter tradition at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, will be glowing with new, features for an evening visit (6-9 p.m.). For the first time ever, you’ll get to stroll the naturally beautiful Texas Arboretum Trail lined with luminaria and illuminated oaks and they are even lighting up select structures in Fortlandia so you can experience the exhibition in a whole new way.  Reserved tickets are required. More info and reservations.

Johnson City’s 31st Annual Lights Spectacular
November 27, 2020 – January 3, 2021
Always a show stopper, the holiday lights will continue to glow in Johnson City with a socially distanced tour of “The Twinkliest Town in Texas” — boasting over two million twinkling lights in the historic square off Main Street. More details.

COTA’s Peppermint Parkway — new this year
November 27, 2020 – January 3, 2021
Peppermint Parkway will be a magical drive-thru holiday spectacular with millions of holiday lights synchronized to joyful holiday classics. The journey starts when patrons follow hosts Pepper and Mint on their journey down COTA’s Tunnel Road as they race to deliver their letters to Santa. The experience will feature dancing elves and other festive entertainers strolling through winter scenes, transporting guests from gingerbread alley to an enchanted forest, and so much more. Austin Steam Train’s North Pole Flyer
November 28 – December 6
Children of all ages can experience their own little Polar Express-inspired moments when they go for a real train ride with Santa and Mrs. Claus and enjoy storytime, hot cocoa, sing-alongs with elves, and Christmas cookies along their journey. Holidays in Hutto
November 28, 7 p.m.
Held at the Brushy Creek Amphitheater, this new event will include a live stream of the City of Hutto’s annual Downtown Tree Lighting, performances by Hutto ISD dance team, carolers, snow sledding, hay and train rides, photos with Santa and his other holiday friends, balloon artists, caricatures, live music performances, and more! Kids 12 and under will get a free hot dog with ticket purchase. For the stage performances, the lawn will be divided into pods to accommodate up to four guests. Austin Trail of Lights
November 28, 2020 – January 3, 2021
Austin’s famed Trail of Lights will welcome us back into twinkly tunnels and merriment throughout Zilker Park this winter! Instead of a stroll through millions of bedazzled displays, the 56th annual Austin Trail of Lights is returning as a drive-thru experience, allowing you to stay safe and warm in the comfort of your own car. For tickets and full details, visit AustinTrailofLights.org.

Zilker Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony – Virtual
Tree on display November 29 – January 1
Tune into the tree lighting as a virtual event at 6 p.m. on November 29. The 2020 event will feature messages from City of Austin as entertainment from Austin Civic Wind Ensemble and Barton Hills Choir. For public safety, there are NO on site viewing or walk-up options for the 2020 ceremony. During the 2020 holiday season, the general public may view the tree from their vehicle from area roadways, and conditions allowing, from available park roads not closed for public safety. Gatherings and on site viewing under the tree will not be available to ensure the health of our community over the holiday period. Parking areas next to the tree will be closed each night.

Light Up the Lake – Round Rock
December 4 & 5
Big glowing holiday cheer is coming to Round Rock for 2 amazing nights in December! Light Up the Lake will be a new 2-day holiday festival around the lake at Old Settlers Park. The event will feature holiday cold and hot air balloons hovering over Bright Lake, an amazing light show, live music, holiday displays, holiday food and refreshments, yule log and more! Old Settlers Park offers ample event space featuring 24 acres and a mile-long trail around bright lake, perfect for social distancing. A limited amount of FREE tickets will be issued for each night. Register online for free tickets.
