Here’s the scoop on what to do in Austin this weekend. From ax-throwing, while sipping mimosas with dear ol’mom, to listening to poetry, we’ve provided a few events to consider this Mother’s Day weekend.
Celebrate Movement with ‘Shine On’
Self-described as a “collaborative non-profit performance company that works to inspire and empower artists through dance,” The Dance Project will be raising the curtain on their new show, “Shine On,” May 6-9. Featuring all forms of dance, the 7:30 p.m. performances at Rollins Theatre will spotlight local choreographers and artists such as Tisha Coffey and Justin Streeter. Thursday-Sunday, 7:30 p.m. 701 W. Riverside Drive
Attend a Dallas vs Austin Poetry Slam
Vibe out at The Historic Victory Grill as the best spoken word poets from Dallas go up against Austin’s reigning champs. DJ Urban Mello will provide the beats to keep the night going, and bites and sips will be available for purchase. Who’s verses will garner the most applause? Snag tickets to the 8:30 p.m. show to find out. Friday, 8:30 p.m. 1104 E. 11th St.
Throw Axes and Sip Mimosas with Mom
Head to Urban Axes this Friday for a unique (and stress-relieving!) Mother’s Day celebration. After booking a one-hour axe-throwing reservation, everyone’s first mimosa is on the house. However, since mom is the star of the show this weekend, she’s welcome to two. Friday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. 812 Airport Blvd.
Take Part in Mother’s Day Festivities at Frida Friday
Bring mom out to Veracruz All Natural Eastside from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the Frida Friday ATX x Veracruz All Natural’s Bidi Bidi Brunch Brunch. Along with vintage, handmade, and artfully curated goods from 25 of Austin’s most talented vendors, DJs Mahealani & Kickit will be providing music throughout the event. Complimentary beverages by Elenita will be provided, as well as mouth-watering tacos from Veracruz All Natural. Saturday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. 2505 Webberville Road
Race to Brunch with Caliterra
Start your Saturday off on the right foot with a 5k run through the trails of Caliterra. Beginning at 9 a.m, the race will take participants by gorgeous views of Onion Creek and will end with a boozy brunch cocktail at the finish line, courtesy of Treaty Oak Distillery. Also included with the $25 registration: live music, delicious bites, and more. Saturday, 8 a.m.-noon. 26025 Ranch Road 12, Dripping Springs
Keep Austin Powwow’n
Central Machine Works Brewery and Beer Hall will be celebrating Native American and Indigenous cultures during their “Keep Austin Powwow’n” celebration this Saturday.
